RELUFA supports IDPs and Host families of people affected by the crisis in the NW/SW Regions of Cameroon

Today November 29, 2019 RELUFA donated food items (beans, rice, sugar, groundnut oil, washing soap) to internally displaced persons and host persons affected by the crisis in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon now residing in Yaounde. The event took place at the RELUFA office with a total of 34 representatives from the host families. Some of the internally displaced people recounted the ordeal they had gone through in their villages before fleeing to Yaounde. They continue to suffer the effects of their displacement.

Houses and properties of some people have been burnt down and they have lost all vital official documents like ID cards, birth certificates etc. This makes it difficult for them to move around for fear of being arrested by the police.

The coordinator of RELUFA, Jaff Bamenjo encouraged the beneficiaries to remain strong in midst of their current difficulties while stressing that the ideal solution was to address the root cause that led to their current situation. Three of the people among the 34 host families present spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries expressing their appreciation to both RELUFA and the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance of PCUSA that provided the financial assistance.

RELUFA plans to continue to seek ways of assisting the internally displaced persons affected by the crisis in the North West/South West regions of Cameroon to overcome their current state of dependence by engaging in revenue generating and skills training for income generation.
