On Saturday, 2nd May 2026, the Heart of Mary Charity Association (HEMACHA) in association with Réseau de Lutte contre la Faim (RELUFA), with financial assistance from the Presbyterian Disaster of the Presbyterian church in the USA (PDA), brought joy to internally displaced persons in the city of Douala through the project Providing Assistance and Strengthening Resilience among crisis affected communities and displaced persons in Cameroon (PASR).
Once again, a beacon of light appeared in families that have known too much loss. In the halls of St. Paul Catholic Church, Nylon Brazzaville-Douala, bags of rice, bottles of vegetable oil, spaghetti, and other food items weren’t just handed out — they were handed over with love, dignity, and a silent promise: “You are not forgotten.”

For mothers who have carried their children across regional borders, for fathers who have watched their homes turn to ashes, and for children who have had to grow up too fast with interrupted education— this was more than food. It was a warm meal, a kind word, and a reminder that humanity still stands with them. And this isn’t the first time. Like a faithful “nutritional midwife,” HEMACHA/ RELUFA has consistently walked this journey with displaced families, bringing nourishment when all else feels empty. Even transport fare was provided so that no one would have to choose between getting home and getting food.
NB: Charity doesn’t just feed the body. It heals the heart and reminds us that no one should face hardship alone.
Tears, smiles, applause and prayers filled the room as beneficiaries poured out their gratitude. In that moment, there were no strangers — only brothers and sisters sharing a communion of compassion.
