The Inextricable Link between plastic Pollution and Food Insecurity

At first glance, food insecurity and Plastic Pollution may seem like 2 totally unrelated issues, but that is far from the truth. Macro -and- microplastic pollution is contaminating aquatic and agricultural ecosystems and threatening food security. Cameroon alone produces 600,000 tons of plastic waste each year with a large quantity entering food chains threatening both animal and human health. In addition to that, marine life suffers from ingesting plastic which also enters the human food chain. Research has proven the presence of microplastics in foodstuffs around the world. Thus, there is an urgent need for every one of us to join hands to beat Plastic Pollution.
