This November 29, 2019, Réseau de Lutte contre la Faim (RELUFA) donated foodstuffs (beans, rice, sugar, peanut oil, laundry soap) to host families of internally displaced people affected by the crisis in the northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon currently residing in Yaoundé. The RELUFA headquarters was the venue for the event. A total of 34 representatives of the host families were received. Some of the IDPs recounted the ordeal they had been through in their villages before fleeing to Yaoundé, where they continue to suffer the effects of their displacement.
Some people’s homes and possessions have been burnt down, and they have lost all essential official documents such as identity cards, birth certificates and so on. This makes it difficult for them to move around for fear of being arrested by the police.
RELUFA coordinator Jaff Bamenjo encouraged the beneficiaries to remain strong in the midst of their current difficulties, while stressing that the ideal solution was to tackle the root cause that led to their current situation. Three of the 34 host families present spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressing their gratitude to RELUFA and to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church USA which provided the financial assistance.
RELUFA plans to continue looking for ways to help internally displaced people affected by the crisis in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon overcome their current situation of dependency by engaging in income generation and vocational training to generate income.
