Extractives Industries Monitoring

Cameroon is full of important untapped mineral, gas and quarry resources. The Cameroonian state has developed a framework for deploying its development policy, in which it identifies the extractive sector as one of its driving forces. Already, the oil sector makes a significant contribution to Cameroon’s public budget. These resources can therefore be useful to ensure the development of Cameroonian populations. But for that to happen, good systems must be implemented and effective management must be carried out.

RELUFA has therefore set the following objectives:

  • Ensure that the extractive sector of Cameroon contributes to the development of communities
  • Ensure that national and local government manages Cameroon’s natural resources in a transparent, accountable and fair manner.

To achieve these objectives, RELUFA:

  • Monitors and advocates for issues raised by host communities of extractive projects;
  • Monitors the impact of projects on riparian communities;
  • Facilitates exchanges between affected communities;
  • Calls for transparency and responsible revenue management for poverty alleviation;
  • Follows the activities of mining companies operating in Cameroon;
  • Participates in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and is a founding member of the Cameroon Coalition “Publish What You Pay”;
  • Is a member of the Kimberley Process Implementation Coordination Committee.
