The Threshing Floor

Defying speculators on the grain markets, farmers of the 34 communities participating in RELUFA's Food Sovereignty program reconstitute new stocks in their village grain banks from the produce of their fields.

Families benefit from these grain banks in more than one way: besides a better nutrition for the children, parents are able to better meet the educational and other needs of the family. Also, the men don't have to leave the village anymore in search for work to buy food. Instead, they can now attend to their own field.

Harvest, however, is a laborious process, from cutting  the stalk to separating the chaff from the grain by scattering the grains before the wind.

For generations the people of Dimsack bring their harvest to a large rock to be threshed. Working together as a community alleviates the hard work to retrieve the grains for next year's supplies.
