Integrated School

Yaounde, September 2004

At the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year, CJARC has opened an integrated bilingual school for blind and seeing students.   Since 6 September sixteen children are following classes at the early and middle elementary levels, four of them without and twelve with eyesight. While both of their teachers know braille, the written means of communication for the visually handicapped, one of them is particularly assigned to assist the blind students. For those who come from other cities and villages, modest boarding facilities are offered. The school is currently housed in CJARC's headquarters in Yaounde, and finding the means to construct a school building on a 1200m2 adjacent plot of land, will be the next challenge. Recently, a first meeting was held with the students' parents, who expressed their satisfaction with the program.
