FOSAL
Opening Radio Salaaman

In August 2004, Fondation Salaaman (FoSal) launched its longawaited Radio Station. Rooted in the Christian Faith, Radio Salaaman seeks to proclaim the Gospel and propagate Christian values of peace, justice and brotherhood in the North Province. It wants to strengthen and build unity in the Christian community by informing the public on church related topics, and through religious edification in general.

But Radio Salaaman also wants to live out the Gospel by helping raise the living standards in North Cameroon. Besides Christian music, teachings, messages and testimonies, the station offers therefore news services and educational programs on sustainable agriculture and husbandry, on socio-economic and cultural development, health, environment, culture, human rights and societal issues.

Located in the town of Garoua, the station’s transmittor covers a surface of 31.400 square kilometers (about half the province) and reaches over half of the province’s population. Since 80% of the population lives in rural areas, the radio is a true tool for communication given its potential of reaching the maximum number of people at once. This will help reduce significantly illiteracy among the population around the cities and those in remote places like the nomade Peuls and other tribes.

Radio SALAAMAN has the local authorization to provide non commercial communication services for the general interest of the public, and does not resort to commercial advertizements. Broadcasting is in the national and major local languages spoken in the North province. The station broadcasts up to 19 hours per day with modifications according to the content of the programs.
