Terrespoir
is an association of 130 local fruit farmers in three regions in
Cameroon, (West Province, Littoral et Center). They grow pineapple,
mangoes, papayas, lime, cacao, groundnuts, avocadoes, plantains,
cassava, etc. , for a fair trade circuit of a network of churches in
Switzerland. The Terrespoir Foundation in Switzerland ensures fair
payment for the association's fresh and dried products.
The
farmers themselves are very attached to their land, which is the main
“employer” of the region, and through their work allows them to take
care of their family and lead a decent life. Terrespoir members are
looking to expand their market to sell more of their members' products
than the current 10% that is sold in Switzerland.
However, ever
since its installation in the region, the export company Plantations de
Haut Penja (PHP) has only one objective: to conquer as much land as
possible, at times to the detriment of the rights of the local
population, and with complicity of the authorities.
